# Random Hadith — Random Hadith Generator & Daily Hadith of the Day

> Authentic hadith from the six major collections — a new narration every visit, in Arabic and English, with full references.

Random Hadith is a free, ad-light reading tool for the Sunnah. Each visit to the home page surfaces a randomly selected, fully sourced narration drawn from a database of **34,477 hadiths** across the **six canonical Sunni collections** (Kutub al-Sittah). Every hadith carries its collection, chapter, and reference number, with the original Arabic shown alongside an English translation. No account is required, and a free read-only JSON API is available for developers.

## The six collections

- [Sahih al-Bukhari](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/sahih-al-bukhari.md) (صحيح البخاري) — 7,563 hadiths in 97 chapters. The most authentic book after the Qur'an, compiled over sixteen years with rigorous verification of every chain of narration.
- [Sahih Muslim](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/sahih-muslim.md) (صحيح مسلم) — 3,033 hadiths in 56 chapters. Renowned for its precise arrangement and meticulous methodology, second only to Sahih al-Bukhari in authenticity.
- [Sunan Abi Dawud](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/sunan-abi-dawud.md) (سنن أبي داود) — 5,260 hadiths in 43 chapters. Focused on hadith of legal rulings, an essential reference for matters of Islamic jurisprudence and practice.
- [Jami` at-Tirmidhi](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/jami-at-tirmidhi.md) (جامع الترمذي) — 3,956 hadiths in 49 chapters. Distinguished by its commentary on the grading of hadith and the differing opinions of the early jurists.
- [Sunan an-Nasa'i](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/sunan-an-nasai.md) (سنن النسائي) — 5,758 hadiths in 51 chapters. Known for its stringent conditions of acceptance, containing some of the most rigorously selected narrations.
- [Sunan Ibn Majah](https://randomhadith.com/pages/books/sunan-ibn-majah.md) (سنن ابن ماجه) — 4,341 hadiths in 37 chapters. The sixth of the canonical collections, valued for narrations not found in the other five major books.

## How it works

The random hadith generator selects an authentic narration from the verified database on each visit or "new hadith" action. Every result includes the Arabic text, English translation, book name, chapter, and reference number. Each hadith also has a stable shareable URL of the form `https://randomhadith.com/?id=<number>` (IDs run 1–34,477), so the same narration can be bookmarked or shared.
