The Book of Funerals
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ آدَمَ، عَنْ عَبْدَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ " . فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِعَائِشَةَ فَقَالَتْ وَهِلَ إِنَّمَا مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى قَبْرٍ فَقَالَ " إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْقَبْرِ لَيُعَذَّبُ وَإِنَّ أَهْلَهُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ " . ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ { وَلاَ تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى } .
'The deceased is punished due to his family's weeping over him; Mention of that was made to 'Aishah and she said: 'He is wrong; rather the Prophet passed by a grave and said: The occupant of this grave is being punished and his family are weeping for him." Then she recited: And no bearer of burdens shall bear another's burden.
