Effective Date: January 1, 2025 | Version 1.0
Welcome to the Random Hadith Licensing page. This document outlines the terms under which our content is made available, what you may do with it, and what requires additional permission. We believe in balancing open access to Islamic knowledge with responsible stewardship of the work we've compiled and created.
Random Hadith is dedicated to making authentic Islamic hadiths accessible to everyone while respecting the intellectual property rights of scholars, translators, and our own creative work. We recognize that hadiths themselves are religious texts that belong to the global Muslim community, while our translations, website code, design, and original content represent significant creative and technical investment.
Our licensing approach reflects Islamic principles of knowledge sharing (the concept of spreading beneficial knowledge as a form of Sadaqah Jariyah) while ensuring the sustainability and integrity of our platform.
The original Arabic texts of hadiths from collections such as Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i, and Sunan Ibn Majah are considered religious texts that exist in the public domain. These texts have been transmitted through centuries of Islamic scholarship and are not subject to copyright in their traditional form.
The English and Urdu translations of hadiths on Random Hadith may be based on existing public domain translations, newly commissioned translations, or adaptations of classical translations. Where translations are based on works in the public domain, they remain freely available. Where we have created or significantly modified translations, these are offered under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), as detailed below.
Unless otherwise specified, all hadith content (Arabic texts, translations, and chapter information) on Random Hadith is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
